Wafayat al-Ayan (The Obituaries of Eminent Men) Part 2

The book Wafiyat al-Ayyan is an outstanding work of Ibn Khalqan, which is a collection of biographies of more than eight hundred famous people in the order of the Arabic alphabet, which was written between the years 1256-74 AD (654-71 AD). In this book, biographies of about 850 scholars, rulers, ministers, and mystics are given in alphabetical order, and only the year of death and birth, and possibly a poem or a treatise of the scholars and scholars was sufficient. In the compilation of this book, the history of the companions, followers and caliphs of the right ones was not mentioned due to their fame, only a few of them were mentioned, and that too very briefly.

This is a monumental work of Ibn Khallikan, an eminent jurist consult and distinguished historian. The author had gained name and fame through this book because it attracted the attention of Orientalists in early nineteenth century. The translator, a well-known scholar, Mr. M.G. de Slane brought out its first edition in 1838. Then he published its English translation.
