The Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre

The Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought is an Islamic non-governmental institute headquartered in Amman, Jordan. On 16 July 2000, the Institute was entrusted to H.R.H. Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, previously Advisor to His Majesty the King for Tribal Affairs, and currently the Personal Envoy and Special Advisor to H.M. King Abdullah II of Jordan. The law of the Institute was amended in 2007. Having passed through all its constitutional stages, it was published in volume no. 4823 of The Official Gazette of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and superseded the Institute's previous law under the title "Law no. 32 for the year 2007—The Law of the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought" and became effective from 1 May 2007. Charter: The main objective of the Royal Center for Islamic Research and Studies (the “Center”) is to preserve and disseminate traditional, “moderate” Islam according to a concept reached by consensus among scholars of the Islamic world in the “Three Points of the Amman Message” between 2005-2006. The Center aims to disseminate the knowledge contained in the “Amman Message” issued in November 2004, as well as the principles it contains, as long as they represent traditional, “moderate” Islam. The Center aims to establish, disseminate and generalize the religious and legal positions of traditional, “moderate” Islam on fundamental issues related to human life in the contemporary world. The Center will study trends in the Islamic world and those responsible for them, in addition to offering proposals for fundamentalist Islamic solutions to problems and conflicts that have arisen in the heart of the Islamic world, and will address emerging issues between Muslims and non-Muslims everywhere. The Center will also seek to study trends and activities among all religions, religious organizations and movements, especially their positions towards Islam and Muslims. The Centre will seek to follow up and possibly coordinate with other international think tanks, as well as with Islamic centres, interfaith centres and religious institutes internationally. The Centre will seek to have information sources and staff under its umbrella, in addition to its own library, video library, publishing houses, websites, information databases, records, address lists, media resources and contacts. It will work to use all available legal and ethical means to communicate its message (as mentioned in points 1-4), particularly through multimedia and publishing. The Centre will have the highest priority for any request or directive issued by His Majesty the King to conduct a study or any religious initiative or project at any time. The Centre will have a Board of International Advisors who will meet periodically at the request of the President (who will be appointed by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought of which the Centre is a semi-independent part) in order to determine further priorities and projects as stipulated in this Charter.
