Variant Readings of the Qur'an

Ahmed Ali Al-Imam (1364-1433 AH / 1945-2012 AD) was a Sudanese religious scholar. He was a former advisor to the Sudanese president for authentication and strategic planning, and the former president of the Islamic Fiqh Academy in Sudan.
Biography
He was born in the city of Dongola in northern Sudan. He received his primary education at the Dongola Scientific Institute and his secondary education at the Omdurman Scientific Institute in Omdurman. He graduated from Omdurman Islamic University in 1974. He memorized the Quran as a young man in the Khalwa of Sheikh Saleh Ali Al-Azhari. He studied under Sheikh Muhammad Ibrahim Al-Tayeb and received his education in jurisprudence and language from his father, Sheikh Ali Al-Imam, and later from scholars of his time. He earned a doctorate from the University of Edinburgh, Britain, in Quranic sciences, with a special focus on critiquing the works of Orientalists in the linguistics and history of the Quran.

He worked as a lecturer at Omdurman Islamic University.
He worked for the Ministry of Education as a teacher in its secondary schools in Dongola and Madani. He taught at the Islamic College in Zanzibar, Tanzania, and in the field of Islamic preaching in East Africa (1974-1978).
He worked as a lecturer at Omdurman Islamic University from 1979, then moved to work for a period as a lecturer at the University of Edinburgh.
He served as Director of the Islamic Center in Edinburgh, President of the Muslim Students Association at Edinburgh Universities, and President of the Postgraduate Students' Union at the University of Edinburgh.
He served as Director of the University of the Holy Quran and Islamic Sciences in Sudan. Executive positions held:
