The Appropriate way to Await the Twelfth Imam

Sayyiduna Rasulullah has foretold the ummah regarding all the trials and tribulations that befell the Muslims like calamities and also showed the way to tackle them. The ulama 1 of the ummah in all the eras, acting rightfully as the inheritors of the Prophet have hauled out the ship (of faith and deeds) of the people of Islam from the whirlpool and guided it to its destination. Furthermore, they educated the Muslims about the ill intent of fallacious powers and Fitan 2 . Today, even after almost 1500 years, the teachings of Islam are free from any alterations and all those necessary matters on which Emaan is based are still in the same shape as the Noble Prophet presented them to the ummah. This in reality is the outcome of the hadith which prophesised that one Jama'ah will always remain on the truth. In present times many Fitan have been instigated regarding the belief of the Mahdi, which tried to mislead the Muslims. This book ‘Signs of Qiyamah and The belief regarding the Mahdi in the Light of Ahadith3 ’ is an excellent book countering such Fitan written by dearest Molvi Sohail Bawa. In this book the belief regarding the emergence of Mahdi has been compiled in sections according to the sahih ahadith and sayings of the ulama. Plus in the beginning of the book the signs of Qiyamah have also been complied in brief to make it easier to understand the belief regarding Mahdi. This servant prays that Allah Ta’ala rewards the author of this book and makes this book a means of guidance for the readers. Ameen.

I consider it a great honour to write the introduction to this book on the life and teachings of Hazrat Syed Mohammed Jaunpuri, Mahdi-e-Maud Alaihi-Wa-Salam. Hazrat Syed Mohammed Jaunpuri Mahdi (AHS) is Khatim-e-Wilayat-e-Mohammedia, Khalifatullah, a Saviour of Ummat-e-Mohammedia as per the traditions of Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him). Allah sent him into this world to spread the true Islamic teachings of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) and to convey to the people the true meaning of the Quran as revealed by Allah Himself. He traveled a very long distance on Hijarat, claimed himself to be Mahdi-e-Maud (AHS) on the commandments received from Allah, wrote letters to kings inviting them to test and acknowledge his Mahdiat and established true Islam once again on Earth. Great Ulema of his times praised the depth of his learning and scholarship and acknowledged his services to Islam. It is a matter of great joy that the author has ventured to write this short biography of such a great and important soul. There are some books on the life of Mahdi-e-Maud (AHS) in Persian and Urdu, but, to the best of my knowledge, there is no printed book in English on him. In his preface to the book, the author has explained why he chose to write this book in English, hence I need not elaborate on that here. Written in an easy and lucid style the book is very readable. Where no equivalent word could be found in English the original Persian or Urdu word has been retained. However the author has taken the trouble to explain these words in English. This I think is the right way to deal with these important words. The author has read various Urdu and Persian books on the life of Hazrat Mahdi (AHS) and has given references for the events mentioned. This has made the work very authentic.

The Future Conquerer

This booklet contains some Prophecies about the Occultation of Imam al-Mahdi (a.s.). It shows that this belief was prevalent among the Shi'as and even some Sunnis right from the time of the Leader of the Faithful, 'Ali (a.s.) Poems based on this belief were composed and recited in the presence of Imam as-Sadiq (a.s.). It also points to some historical developments that re-confirm the existence and impact of those prophecies. Three great non-Shi'a traditionists wrote books on Imam al-Mahdi's ghaybah long before his birth in 255 A.H. They undeniably prove the truth of the Occultation and Reappearance of the Sahibu 'l-'Asr — the Master of this Time. May Allah hasten his reappearance.

Prophecies about Occultation of Imam Al Mehdi (a.s)

Who is the Mahdi of Islam? According to both Sunni and Shi'i Muslims, the "guided one" will rise during the end times to conquer all nations. With Jesus Christ, he will bring an end to aggression and injustice, and will establish the Kingdom of God on earth. However, Sunnis and Shi'is disagree about the identity of the Mahdi. According to Shi'is, the Mahdi - an extraordinary human being who will perform extraordinary miracles - is Muhammad b. alHasan al-Husayni. He was born over a thousand years ago, and is still alive on this earth, but living in occultation, and will reappear during the end times. For Sunnis, however, the Mahdi will be an ordinary and mediocre man by the name of Muhammad b. 'Abd Allah alHasani. In "Imam al-Mahdi: The Twelfth Khalifah in the Sahih Sunni Ahadith", author Toyib Olawuyi argues that the identification of the awaited Mahdi with Muhammad b. 'Abd Allah al-Hasani is not established in any reliable Sunni or Shi'i hadith, but is based on only a few unreliable Sunni reports. By contrast, Olawuyi demonstrates, Muhammad b. al-Hasan alHusayni is confirmed as the Mahdi in both authentic and authoritative Shi'i and Sunni sources. "Imam al-Mahdi" is a carefully balanced work of scholarship that will both inform and challenge the views of many Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

How to gain proximity to the Imam of the Age

The Promised Savior is a short but significant work that deals with the doctrine of Mahdaviyat (the belief in Imam Mahdi as ultimate savior).Despite being short, it has not ignored any vital issues concerning the doctrine of Mahdaviyat. It is composed of three main parts. The first part is devoted to introducing Mahdi and that the belief in his existence is not restricted to Shias alone. Based on authentic prophetic traditions, all Islamic sects accept the doctrine of Mahdaviyat in one way or the other.As to the second part, it treats traditions that are apparently opposed to the traditions that prove the question of Mahdivyat as an essential article of Islamic faith. The last part sheds light on issues concerning Imam's life, his residence, the exact time of his reappearance, his methodology of judgment etc. The top peculiarity of this work is that it deals with the issue in a particularly scholarly and impartial manner. It approaches the issue not only from a Shiite perspective but also from a Sunnite angle.

During the time of occultation of Imam ajfj, the followers of Ahlul Bayt asws are instructed to observe Taqqiya, remain quiet, without involving in government/political struggles and wait until there is a call from the Skies and the earth shows signs of splitting-up. An armed struggle in the leadership of a nonmasoom leader is disbelief, i.e., consuming dead animals, blood and pork for food. Infallible Imams asws after the Martyrdom of Imam Hussain asws, as per Divine Instructions, did not support any uprising against the unjust rulers of their asws time, although theyasws were very well aware of cruel and un-Islamic practices of the governors of Bani Ummaid and Bani Abbas dynasties, ruling over the Muslim land. Instead, they asws discouraged theirasws followers in taking part in such struggles and instructed them to wait for the coming of the ‘Saviour ajfj’, who will appear at a specific time in the future.

Our duty during the absence of the Imam (a.s.) is the same as the duty during the presence of the infallible Imam (peace be upon him). Although he is absent from our eyes, he has knowledge and respect for us and watches over our actions and behavior. Therefore, all the duties that the Holy Qur'an, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the infallible imams (peace be upon them) have determined and stated for a Muslim person in the time of occultation, we understand that all these duties can be summed up in one sentence and say that the greatest duty of the Shiites in the age The absence of waiting for the doomsday ("Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him) said, he said: The Messenger of God (peace be upon him) is the best of worship is waiting for the doomsday.) and the emergence of the world government of Hazrat Mahdi (may God bless him and grant him peace), but considering that waiting for the doomsday is not a slogan Rather, it is a culture and a set of duties and tasks that must be carried out so that a person can wait for his real Mullah and Imam.

I know that surely someone will come but I do not know who he is or when he will come.”
