Canada is the second largest country in the world and one of eight developed countries with a population of 34 million. According to official figures, one million one hundred and eleven thousand Muslims live in this country. There are more than 360 mosques and Islamic centers in Canada, of which 80 are owned by Shiites living in the country.

The Ahl al-Bayt Association of Canada was established in 1993 in Toronto, Canada, in accordance with 1993 AD. This forum was established by the collective efforts of the officials of the Shiite Islamic Centers with the aim of uniting the centers of the followers of the Ahl al-Bayt (AS) and was registered as a charitable and non-profit organization in the Federal Government of Canada.

The Iman Islamic Charitable Foundation started its activities in New Zealand in 1995 and was registered on March 7, 2006 with the financial support of Muslims in New Zealand, Iran and other Islamic charities around the world. This financial and spiritual support led to the purchase of 1771 square meters of land to build a mosque in Auckland, called Imam Reza Mosque. This mosque is the first and only Shiite mosque in Oceania.

World Islamic Assembly of London in the year 95 AH, equal to 14 AD, with the care of God Almighty and the special attention of Hazrat Baqiyatullah Al-Azam Hajj Ibn Al-Hassan Al-Mahdi Arvahannala Al-Fada The Blissful Culture of Islam and Public Acquaintance with the Religion of the Ahl al-Bayt Infallibility and Purity (PBUH) and Addressing the Religious Affairs and Religious Problems of Muslims, Especially Shiites . The great need of the British Muslims, especially the Shiites, and the growing attention of the European people to Islam was the motive for this.

The World Islamic Assembly is one of the oldest official Islamic and Shiite centers in Europe and has been promoting the religion of Islam for thirty years.

The Islamic Center of South Africa (SAIC) is a non-profit Islamic center in Dubai. The center was initially established as a Quranic center in 2002, and in 2012, it was officially established as the Islamic Center of South Africa. The vision of this center is to establish and maintain a comprehensive Islamic center to serve English-speaking Muslims inside and outside Dubai.

The goals of this center are:
• Helping the Muslim community to take action to achieve Islam as a whole way of life and strengthen the bond between them.
• Carrying out religious, educational, social and other Islamic activities in order to achieve the desired goals of this center
Establish good, healthy and friendly relations by presenting true Islam to people of other religions and promoting better understanding between Muslims and non-Muslims
• Create a conducive and engaging environment for students and adults that promotes and facilitates effective learning outcomes
• Having an important role in Islamic foundations and the upbringing of children and ultimately communities
• Develop a deep and inherent Islamic awareness in students and communities that they will use to guide the current and global environment in which they live.
The center is governed by a board of directors and a committee that oversees strategy, management, finance, and human resources. Among the center's activities is setting up classes for English-speaking adults and Muslims. These classes are held for the following purposes:
• Expand and offer regular Islamic principles courses for those who have converted to Islam and those who are Muslims;
• Creating an environment in which Muslims are able to increase their Islamic knowledge to apply the teachings of the Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH) in their lives;
• Classes for adults to improve Quran recitation;

Islamic Center of South Africa (SAIC)

The Islamic Center of the Shiites of Brazil, or the Islamic Center of San Paolo, is one of the most active Shiite centers in Latin America. It is based and is managed by Sheikh Talib Hossein Khazraji.

The center was started twenty years ago by Sheikh Talib Hussein Khazraji. Talib Hussein was born in Najaf in 1954, he started seminary classes in his hometown, and after his brother Nasser Hussein in 1979 by the ruling regime in Iraq. He was killed, went to Syria and continued his education. He studied in Iran from 1982 to 1986, and in 1986, in coordination with the Islamic Propaganda Organization and Bilal Muslim Mishan, went to Tanzania to preach among the Twelver. The following year he returned to Qom and worked for a while at the Bint Al-Huda School (a seminary for non-Iranian sisters). Talib Hussein left for Brazil in 1989.

Registered, in the United Kingdom, The World Federation of Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri Muslim Communities has existed for over 30 years. We are a faith-based organization, consisting of about 125,000 community members worldwide, mainly in Canada, East Africa, India, Middle East, Pakistan, The United Kingdom and the United States of America. The World Federation is made up of member organizations based in different regions: The Federation of Khoja Shia Ithna Asheri Jamaats of Africa, The Council of European Jamaats, Federation of Australasian Communities, India Federation, Organization of North American Shia Ithna-asheri Muslim Communities and The Federation of Khoja Shia Isna Asheri Jamaats of Pakistan. The Islamic Center of America is one of North America’s oldest institutions. Established in 1963, the Islamic Center has been serving the needs of Muslims in the greater Detroit area as well as throughout the United States. The Islamic Center of America has a long a rich past that embodies the American Muslim Community’s search, struggle and triumph to find a place to belong. The story begins in 1949, when Imam Jawad Chirri, a man who could not speak or understand English came to America at the request of a small group of people who were yearning for Islamic guidance. It culminates as an Islamic Center that has become more than a place of worship but an Institution and a beacon for Islam in North America.

The Islamic Center of America was founded to perpetuate the social, moral, and religious standards of Muslims in the United States, to teach the Arabic language, and to educate the American society about Islam and the Arab culture.

Introduction

The Islamic Center of England-London (ICEL) was founded in December 1995, and opened officially in November 1998.

The Center, in common with other Islamic organizations in Europe, wishes to provide spiritual guidance for the Muslim community at large, and also wishes to cater for the social, cultural, educational and recreational needs of members of the community – especially women and the next generation.

The Centre’s other main objective manifests itself in its sincere effort to disseminate authentic knowledge about Islam and to provide non-Muslims with a better and clearer understanding of Islam.

ICEL seeks to build bridges with the society at large and establish closer ties between peoples of different faiths and cultures all over the world.

Facilities

The building of the Islamic Centre of England is a listed building, which has been refurbished to assume an Islamic decorative hue. On its ground level the building boasts a grand hall, measuring 20 x 16m, which is capable of accommodating some 450 people; it is used for holding major functions. There is also a smaller hall on a raised platform, measuring 20 x 6m, used mainly for prayers. The first floor comprises two halls, the first measuring 20 x 6m and the second 8 x 8m; they are capable of accommodating 150 and 50 people respectively. The library is situated on the first floor.

The main hall is equipped with state of the art audio-visual equipment, such as projectors, a giant screen for showing films, public address and simultaneous translation systems. There is also a stage that can be used, amongst other things, for theatrical performances.

The availability of such facilities makes the center an ideal venue for holding conferences, seminars and social gatherings.

Religious Enquires Section

In an attempt to fulfill man’s quest for knowledge, the Religious Enquires Section (RES) of the Islamic Centre of England was set up at the very beginning. It comprises a highly competent team of multilingual experts who will deal with every question according to the linguistic background of the enquirer. Following an initial assessment, queries will be answered.

Questions are received from all over the world via telephone, fax, and email and in person. Since the questions stem from Muslims as well as non-Muslims coming from different ethno-religious backgrounds, our answers aim to provide a modern, detailed and clear response. These answers are compiled for a publication. RES has already published many books containing these questions and answers.

Family and Social Affairs Department

Human beings are social beings and social interactions need a thoughtful approach if one wishes to keep one’s religious values. Communities have a duty to educate and be educated in the art of communicating with others. A good and healthy relationship between husband and wife can have a huge impact on the upbringing of children who are constantly looking for role models to follow.

The Family and Social Affairs Department of the Islamic Centre of England was one of the first departments to be set up upon the establishment of the Centre. This section is a refuge and reference for the community to seek advice and consideration of their family and social affairs, individually and collectively.

The main areas of work covered by this department are: Solemnization of Marriages, Family Consultation, Miscellaneous social affairs, Islamic Divorce procedures and responding to many other queries related to the above issues as well as conversion to Islam. The department offers an excellent opportunity to gauge the extent of problems or trends in Islamic communities due to having direct access to real people.

There are several causes that can bring about disputes in a family. Among the general causes that can be mentioned are legislation, egoism and ignorance. Unfortunately prompt action in the form of mediation and intervention by a neutral party is often delayed. In this respect Islamic Centers and religious organizations have a very delicate and important role and duty to perform by providing necessary professional assistance especially for the families of the immigrant community.

Cultural Activities

In its drive to disseminate authentic knowledge about Islam, the Islamic Centre of England organizes several conferences and seminars every year in collaboration with British and other International educational and cultural institutions. In the last few years a number of such seminars were organized on a variety of topics. From the purely religious to the day-to-day, the Centre invites specialists in different topics to give weekly lectures. Since Muslims in the UK form a mosaic of ethnicity, ICE provides speakers in four different languages for these weekly lectures: English, Arabic, Persian, and Urdu. Educational Activities

The Islamic Centre of England provides a range of educational classes for both Muslims and non-Muslims.

The Islamic Community in London can benefit from a variety of courses and educational activities designed to improve one’s understanding of Islamic principles and practices.

In addition to the above, the Centre also opens its doors to any groups or individuals interested in acquiring a better understanding of Islam and Muslims. Educational sessions can be held for groups or on a one-to-one basis.

To this effect the Centre has established direct links with a number of schools and universities for which it provides regular lessons to visiting students.

Islamic Calendar Events

Numerous events adorn the Islamic calendar. Ramadan, the fasting season, and Muharram are just two such auspicious and sacred occasions.

ICEL celebrate the occasion of the month-long fast of Ramadan by holding gathering for congregational prayers, recitation of the Holy Quran, giving lectures and providing meals for the devotees to break their daytime fast.

ICEL also celebrates the anniversary of the Public Declaration of the Mission of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him and his pure progeny).

Islamic Centre of England seizes the opportunity of the anniversary of the birth of the Messenger of Allah to observe a week of celebrations with the theme of “Islam Unity”. While celebrating this auspicious event, the occasion is utilized to serve as a reminder that the Muslim Ummah (community) is one.

ICEL also celebrate the birth anniversaries of other luminaries of Islam and commemorates their deaths. This is done with the objective of drawing lessons from their principled lives and providing spiritual enrichment for members of the community.

Publications and Distribution

The Islamic Centre of England has a team of competent staff and advisers who are charged with the responsibility of the publication and distribution of printed material in English, Persian, Arabic and Urdu. 'Living Islam' is a monthly newsletter which is published and distributed in these four languages.

Library and Bookshop

Other aspects of the cultural landscape, which ICEL strives to make an impact on, include the publication of printed matters such as books and leaflets, audio cassettes CDs and DVDs materials. These deal mainly with Islamic issues and religious practice.

The Library contains a few thousand volumes on different topics. It regularly receives magazines, periodicals and newsletters dealing with Islamic issues and studies. Other publications, in English, Persian, Arabic and Urdu, aimed at giving information about Islam, can be acquired free of charge. The Centre welcomes scholars, researchers and students to make use of the library.

The Bookshop stocks a wide range of multilingual books, magazines, journals, audio tapes, CDs and DVDs. In addition, there are posters, calendars and items of Islamic arts.

Start of IECOC:

With the vision of a leader, Imam Sayed Moustafa Al-Qazwini, along with the assistance of a few community members pioneered the establishment of the first mosque in Irvine, California, in addition to being the first mosque that follows the tradition of Ahlul-Bayt (the family of the holy Prophet Muhammad).

The Islamic Educational Center of Orange County (IECOC) opened its doors to the Muslim community of Orange County in September 1996 in a small rented building in Irvine, California. Its focal aim was to provide the teachings of the Holy Quran, the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh&hf), and Ahlul-Bayt (as) to the communities of Orange and Los Angeles Counties.

After two-short years, the IECOC community quickly outgrew its facility. With the assistance from Allah (swt), the community was able to raise funds to purchase a new building in Costa Mesa, California. The new location was inaugurated in the Holy month of Ramadan 1420/December 1999 and now serves the larger Orange and Los Angeles Counties.

Islamic Educational Center of Orange County

Our Vision

Introducing Islamic teachings to the researchers and academia in the western world based on the Holy Quran and the Traditions of the Holy Prophet of Islam (PBUH) and His Progeny (Ahlul-Bait (A.S)).

Short History

The Islamic Research and Information Center (IRIC) was established by a group of Muslim graduate students in Washington D.C., USA in 1990. In a short period of time, this center was able to create a network of 40 different Islamic institutes across North America, and prepared the ground for further cooperation.

Through this network, the Islamic Cooperation Council was established. This Council held monthly meetings across different States, and set up multiple educational and cultural programs. IRIC was also successful in publishing the Islamic Monitor journal, as well as the Bosnia Watch weekly bulletin which played a key role in providing vital news and support to stop human genocide in Bosnia in the last decade of the 20th century.

A summary of activities and achievements in the initial stage are as follows:

 	<li>Active cooperation with different Islamic communities and centers in order to establish a network of Islamic institutes.</li>

IRIC continued its second round of activities in the Islamic Republic of Iran from 1996 as a registered non-profit NGO. It was able to attract exceptional talented researchers and students to undertake projects related to the contemporary issues of the Islamic World.

International Cooperation

IRIC for the aim of achievement of its goals has already organized some kind of cultural and scientific cooperation with Islamic institutes and organizations and also academic centers in western countries through its representative offices.

IRIC, based on its past experience, is very interested in participating and sponsoring regional and international conferences in comparative religions, contemporary Islamic issues, rights of Muslim minorities, interaction between Islam and the West, etc. In this context, several research projects on the above-mentioned subjects have been identified.

Cooperation in the establishment and support of Islamic studies in the institution of higher education, and international cooperation in the production of appropriate films, TV programs, audio-visual programs and publication of books in the relevant areas of interest are among additional activities of IRIC.

One of the objectives of IRIC is membership in the international organizations and associations in order to provide an opportunity for interaction between Islam and the West and also know the Muslim communities and defend their natural rights.

IRIC also is willing to exchange its cultural products with other interested individuals and institutions.

As a recent development, IRIC , as a registered cultural & religious institution, has achieved “ Special Consultative Status” with the United Nations Economic & Social Council since April 2015, under the name of Islamic Research and Information Artistic and Cultural Institute, which can be utilized in the advancement of Muslim roles in the programs and decisions approved by the world body.

Islamic Research and Information Center (IRIC)

Establishment of the Centre

In the year 1332 S.H/1953 A.D, the importance and necessity of establishing an Islamic centre and a mosque for the Iranians was discussed at a meeting which was held at the Atlantic Hotel and led by a group of Iranian residents of Hamburg. This suggestion was welcomed by the attendees and it was decided that a mosque would be established to cater not only for the Iranians, but rather for all Muslims living in Hamburg.

In 1332, a letter was sent to Ayatollah Borojerdi by the members of this meeting which contained a proposal for establishing a center to hold various religious gatherings,

The late Ayatollah Borojerdi welcomed the proposal and sent 10 thousand tomans as the first financial support for the establishment of the center.

On the second day of Tir 1332 S.H (23rd June 1953 A.D), a group of interested individuals were invited to a session where the letter of Ayatollah Borojerdi was read out. At the board’s managers meeting, 9 individuals were elected as the mosque engineering managers, namely:

 	<li>Haj Ali Naghi Kashani 2. Hossein Veladi 3. Mohammad Ali Bagherzadeh 4. Mohammad Taghi Tabarrok 5. Mohammad Khosroshahi 6. Hamid Shojaee 7. AbdolAli Feiz 8. Mohammad Hossein Dehdashti 9. MirHossein Ghaffari.</li>
</ol>
Furthermore, among them, a four-member managing board was elected and a bank account by the name of “Iranian Population” was opened. Simultaneously, based on the recommendation of the late Ayatollah Borojerdi, a commission of Tehrani business men was formed in Tehran to collect financial support for the mosque.

In 1334 (1955 A.D), the late Hojat Al-Islam Agha Mohammad Mohagheghi; the representative of Ayatollah Borojerdi and the mosque’s Imam started his mission. On the 9th Tir 1336 (1st October 1957 A.D), the current land which is 3744, 4 square metres was purchased for the amount of 250 thousand marks. This amount was granted by an Iranian benevolent business man the late Haj Ghasem Hamedanian.

On the 12th Azar 1336 (3rd December 1975 A.D), a competition was set up by the centre’s engineering board in which three enterprises proposed their plans regarding the mosque. For the final acceptance, these suggested plans were sent to Ayatollah Borojerdi in Qom and he appointed Mr. Lorzadeh, a famous Iranian architecture, to carry out this mission. Amongst the plans submitted, the designs by Schram and Elingius were selected by Mr. Lorzadeh. This design has been prepared with the cooperation of an Iranian engineer named Mr. Parviz Zargarpoor. On the 11th March 1960, a contract was settled with the above-said contractor and the preliminary infrastructure tasks to build the mosque with an area of 832.42 square meters started. The mosque preliminary stages were carried out by Hojat Al-IslamMr. Mohagheghi and in the presence of a group of Muslim representatives in Hamburgon the 15th Shaban 1370 A.H (the 24th day of Bahman 1336 S.H and 13th February 1960 A.D) which coincided with the birth of Imam Mahdi (AJ), the construction work began

Towards the end of 1963 the structure of the mosque was completed. Due to the death of the late Ayatollah Borojerdi and the return of Mr. Mohagheghi to Iran at the end of the year 1963, the construction was delayed again and due to lack of budget; the engineering board was in debt to the German banks. The mosque’s unfinished building caused the managers to experience numerous difficulties. Moreover, it led the members of the municipality to complain. Therefore, an article under the heading “a Remote Mosque” was published in the Hamburger Abendblatte newspaper in which the issue of Muslims’ unfinished building around the Lake Alester and Schone Aussicht Street (beautiful landscape) was discussed.

In mid-1342 (1964 A.D.), an amount was credited to the Hamburg mosque‘s account with the cooperation of Chamber of Commerce in Iran; therefore, the debts of the mosque was almost cleared.

In 1343 (1965 A.D), Ayatollah Dr. Beheshti was appointed as the Imam of the mosque by the -Maraje Taqlid. One of his first measures was to establish a new engineering board with more members than before. Furthermore, a seven member board of following trustees were appointed:

2)              Dr. Engineer Iraj Moshiri

3)              Dr. Ali Ammari

4)              Manochehr Eghbal

5)              Karim Nematzadeh

6)              Mohammad Khosroshahi

7)              Hassan Velladi

Based on the assessment of the status quo and a lengthy discussion, the new engineering board concluded that it was not practical to finish the construction of the mosque all at once. They also concluded that to alleviate the remote condition of the mosque, the following five-step program was agreed:

Completion of the ablution block and administrative offices and libraries

Completion of the exterior decorations of the mosque

Completion of external area of the mosque

Completion of the rest of the mosque building especially its dome

Building a residential room for the mosque’s custodian

During 1966 and 1967, the administrative part of the mosque and a part of its external walls tiles were completed by a group of individuals’ financial support and endowments of interested Muslims in Hamburg and Tehran; yet the mosque still was in debt to Melli Bank. By now seven years passed since the beginning of the construction.

Another important initiative of Ayatollah Beheshti was that in addition to establishing a mosque, an Islamic cultural institute should be founded to cater for all the Muslims from different nationalities and religious backgrounds. Therefore, on the 19th Bahman 1344 (8th February 1966) Hamburg Islamic Centre was registered through the initiative of Ayatollah Dr. Beheshti and its cultural activities began in Germany and other European countries.

In 1968, Hojat Al-Islam Mr. Mohammad Shabestari was leaving for Hamburg following the invitation by Ayatollah Beheshti to cooperate with him. After Ayatollah Beheshti’s return from Hamburg in 1970, he was assumed the responsibility of the mosque’s prayer leader and director of the Islamic Centre in Hamburg.

From then until the martyrdom of Ayatollah Dr. Beheshti (1360 S.H), the management of the centre were under his supervision and the next Imam should be appointed under his authority.

During 1969 and 1979, construction activities concerning amphitheatre, the mosque’s façade and a part of basement was completed.

Despite the fact that several intensive activities were completed, no efforts had been made regarding the structural status of the mosque; no more progress had been made regarding the construction of the mosque. This condition can be seen during the time of Hojat Al-Islam Mohammad Khatami when he was appointed as the mosque’s Imam and director. (1357 to 1359 S.H, 1978 to 1980 A.D). This coincided with the challenges faced by Iranians leading up to the Islamic revolution.

Sayyed Khatami returned to Iran and Hojat Al-Islam Mohammad Moghaddam assumed the responsibility (1358 to 1370 S.H, 1980 to 1992 A.D), repairing the mosque, the basement, including kitchen, toilets tiling inside the dome was completed in 1989 and simultaneous translation system equipment were installed at the mosque’s amphitheater. Additionally, during the period of the management of Hojat Al-Islam Moghaddam, several proposals were offered to establish a center supplementary department located behind the mosque. Numerous preliminary tasks were carried out to pursue the administrative procedures of the new department situated next to the original mosque building. These proposals were carried out during the time of Hojat Al-Islam Ansari and were completed in 1378 (2000 A.D). Upon the arriving of Hojat Al-Islam Hosseini Nasab in Hamburg, the opening ceremonies of these plans were performed.

Grand Ayatullah (marj’a) Sayyid Abul Qasim Musawi Al-Khoei, one of the most influential Shi’a Islamic scholars, and the predecessor to Grand Ayatullah Sayyid Ali Al-Husayni Al-Sistani, established The Imam Al-Khoei Benevolent Foundation in 1989. The Foundation’s concern is to continue the charitable and educational functions historically associated with the office of the marj’aiyya, the institution of the highest-ranking Shi’i leadership. Today the Foundation, with its headquarters in London, has more than 15 branches in some of the most important cities of the world, including New York, and has grown to become the largest International Shi’a Muslim organization.

UNITED NATIONS

In 1997 the Foundation became the fourth Muslim organization – and the only Shi’a Muslim organization – to hold General Consultative Status in the United Nations, where it currently promotes work in human rights and minority rights. The Foundation’s officers have helped monitor elections in Iraq as well as voting booths in Europe.

EDUCATIONAL SERVICES

Education is the Foundation’s mission. Al-Sadiq School for boys and Al-Zahra for girls, the only Shi’a schools in the UK, the co-educational Al-Iman School in New York, United States and Al-Houda School in Montreal, Canada were also established under the aegis of the Foundation. These schools are locally accredited and offer locally approved courses and integrate Islamic and Quranic sciences with the regular curriculum. Combined together these schools educate approximately a thousand youths every year.

Madeenat al-‘Ilm, the city of knowledge, in the holy city of Qum, Iran, is the largest theological institute in Shi’a world. Here more than three thousand students are studying theology. The facilities at Qum include dormitories for 500 married students, in addition to theological centers.

Al-Kauthar University in Islamabad offers Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral programs in a wide variety of courses. The University is housed in an impressive complex, providing administrative, academic and residential blocks for up to approximately 700 students.

The Foundation has also helped set up the International Colleges of Islamic Science, the only online Shi’a Islamic University, approved by the British Accreditation Council for Independent Further and Higher Education.

HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

Ayatullah Al-Khoei also endeavored to bring honor and respect to disadvantaged Shi’a in the Muslim world by training them in the professions, providing nurseries for women, and founding industrial schools and universities, especially in India and Pakistan.

The Foundation also contributed to other types of development work like digging wells in villages lacking water supply such as in Afghanistan after the departure of the Soviet Union.

Countless families that suffered from the Iraq-Iran war, and later because of the invasion of Kuwait by Saddam Hussain, were helped through generous grants by the Foundation.

The Foundation continues to help victims of wars and natural disasters through its various branches.

RELIGIOUS SERVICES

Every branch of the Foundation around the world is involved in dissemination of religious knowledge and services through its Islamic Centers. Most notably, the centers in London, New York, Montreal, Paris, Islamabad and Mumbai are one of the largest in their respective regions. Weekend Schools and summer classes continue the year-long religious education to children and youths.

Through these Islamic centers the Foundation’s own clerics work to educate the local public on Islam, advice converts, and provide chaplain services to Muslims in the prison systems. Religious counseling is available for youth, women, couples wanting to marry or divorce, and other community members seeking advice on how to live Muslim lives in the West.

Local officers at the Islamic centers organize activities for youth, celebrations of religious holidays, sports events for women, etc. In addition, clerics and officers are active in both local and international interfaith activities.

The Foundation works together with other organizations, and welcomes the frequent visits of wukala’ – representatives of the maraja’. Its public relations officer teaches classes for imams to work on their communication skills, part of a collaborative effort with Sunni Muslim organizations on a Good Practice Guide for Mosques and Imams, aiming for the accreditation and standardized training of both Sunni and Shi’a imams.

Officers of The Foundation hold regular meetings with the metropolitan police and local precincts on police/youth interactions, and oversee halal food standards in Britain and in United States. In New York, the Foundation has representation on the Clergy-Police Liaison Council under the New York Police Commissioner.

HUMAN RIGHTS

A human rights advocate is on staff at the Foundation which has also helped initiate a Committee for Democracy in Iraq Now. The Committee holds regular meetings for Iraqi refugees living in London, and features visiting Iraqi politicians as speakers, as well as membership of Amnesty International panels and a host of other committees.

Most recently, the Foundation organized an informational meeting with Baroness Emma Nicholson on the humanitarian crisis in Lebanon over summer 2006, followed by an assessment visit to evaluate the best possible response for charity efforts. The Foundation gives interviews to news channels, attends as well as organizes conferences. The latest conference last September, where the Foundation partnered with The Right Path of Islam Association of Mumbai, India, was entitled “Tackling Extremism, Viewpoints from Britain and the Sub-Continent.”

The Foundation frequently engages with institutions such as Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Minority Rights Group International, and Save the Children and works to correct the public image of the Muslims in the West.

The Foundation works locally with immigration and refugee offices, writing letters of support for those who are religiously persecuted, and advise members of immigrant community on their rights and responsibilities.

Imam Al-Khoei Foundation

Bilal Muslim Mission is an important Shiite organization founded in 1967 by Sayyid Saeed Akhtar Razavi and a number of other Shiite leaders in Tanzania. Its main purpose is to propagate Islam, especially Shiism, among Tanzanians' Africans. Light magazine is in English and Sout al-Bilal is on the beach.

The organization's activities have been extended beyond the African continent; In addition to operating in African countries such as Kenya, it also has branches in the United States, Sweden, etc.

Publication of Sout al-Bilal Magazines in Swahili and Light in English, the first issue of Light Magazine was published in 1963 with a circulation of 75 copies. The Face of Al-Bilal magazine was first published by Ali Dina, a Shiite from Khoja, and in 1967 its publication was handed over to the Bilal Muslim Mission in Tanzania.
