Abul Ali Maududi was born in 1903 in the city of Aurangabad in the state of Hyderabad, India. He spent his youth as a journalist. A few years later, he published a monthly magazine entitled Tarjaman al-Qur'an, which was devoted to the translation and interpretation of the Qur'an, and continued to publish it until the end of his life in 1979.
