Imam Hussein(a.s) and the Day of Ashura
The Karbala incident is an event of the first century of the Hijri calendar in which Hussein ibn Ali, the grandson of the Prophet (PBUH) and the third Imam of the Shiites, along with a number of his companions, were martyred in Karbala on the orders of Yazid ibn Muawiyah, and their women and children were taken captive. This incident is considered the most heartbreaking event in Islamic history and the catalyst for uprisings against the Umayyads. According to some researchers, this incident prevented the Umayyads from distorting the religion of Islam and the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH). Motahari believes that among historical events, there are few events that are as rich in authentic narrations as the Karbala incident. In his opinion, no event in history - in distant histories related to, for example, thirteen or fourteen centuries ago - has as much authentic history as the Karbala incident, and even the most reputable Islamic historians from the first and second centuries have narrated the incident with authentic documents, and these narrations are consistent and close to each other.
