The well-pleased Imam, ‘Ali ibn Abi-Talib, is the commander of the faithful believers, the chief of the prophets’ successors, and the first of the guiding successors to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (sawas), by the command of Allah the Almighty and the decree of the Holy ProphetThe Holy Qur’an has openly declared Imam ‘Ali’s inerrancy and purification from all filth.The Holy Prophet took Imam ‘Ali, his wife, and his two sons as partners in his famous mutual invocation of God’s curse on the lying party (mubahalah) against the Christians of Najran. He also declared these persons to be the Near Relatives (qurba), the love for whom was decided by the Almighty as obligatory upon all Muslims. On more than one occasion, the Holy Prophet introduced these persons as the matches of the Glorious Qur'an, declaring that redemption should be only for those who hold fast to these two while perdition is the result for those failing to adhere to them.
